Medieval Arch below the Stairway

Medieval, thirteenth-fourteenth century

The arch under the staircase in the main courtyard dates from the building's origins in the late thirteenth or early fourteenth century. In view of its location on the ground floor, this arch would have been the entrance to storerooms or stables. The present Baroque stairway covers part of this arch, and from this we can infer the existence of an original medieval stairway either situated elsewhere in the courtyard or of different dimensions.
