Medieval (thirteenth century) and Baroque (eighteenth century)
It is probable that this great opening originally had mullioned arched windows with slender uprights, similar to those still to be seen on the stairway, but these were replaced during the Baroque with the flat lintel it has today. The windowsill was also removed during the same operation to make it into a door. To the left are the remains of a similar lintel, which would have been above an identical opening that has been bricked up.
