Room with Coffered Ceiling and Wallpaper

Medieval, thirteenth century; Renaissance, sixteenth century

This coffered wooden ceiling has two different finishes, possibly as a result of the alterations to the building during the sixteenth century, when the main hall was divided into two rooms. One of these rooms retained the original medieval ceiling of painted wood, while the other was decorated with what is probably the oldest example of wallpaper in Spain, dating from the late sixteenth century, consisting of panels of printed paper with a design in ochre, black and white.
